For some reason when I was reading Graeme Simsion's book "The Rosie Project" I kept thinking about the Rouché's theorem. I don't know why really since it does not have much to do with the book (nothing really).

You see in complex analysis, the Rouché's theorem is a statement about the zeros and poles of meromorphic functions. It is named after the French mathematician Eugène Rouché and of course has nothing to do with a man that eats a lobster salad every Tuesday. But in someways Graeme Simsion presents us with a a complex analysis of Don Tillman's life.

You see he is a university professor with Asperger's Syndrome and he is looking for a wife. After developing and trying several strategies with the complicity of his only two friends, he gets there, without realizing. The series has him lived all kinds of unforeseen adventures and is generally heart warming.

While I know a few people who were not able to connect with the character I liked the humorous tone of these books.

Don Tillman is a professor of genetics at the university and his best friend is Gene. But he is also friends with Rosie, student by day, waitress by night. And that is where Graeme's theorem gets complicated.

The author succeeded brilliantly in using a classic literary tactic: "Show don't tell". And he created somebody that I was able to relate to, to root for, and to shudder when things go horribly wrong. There is no better name for this character because his is so subtle and un-imposing in his nature! He shows us very well the difficulty Don has with interpersonal relationships, his weakness of his emotional side that his friend Gene uses to his advantage. Gene cheats on his wife Claudia, he explains it to Don that he has a research project: sleeping with as many women of different nationalities as possible. A little later in the book, we understand that Claudia does not appreciate this supposed "research project."

The books focus on Don's character despite his problem and I like that the book shows us that a person with this kind of difficulty is capable of leading a normal life or as close to one as any of use lead. Don manages to have a relationship with Rosie. And that too is refreshing.

I also love the end. Rosie and Don have been looking, they have been on a quest. At the end of the novel, we learn the result of this search and I love the way the author reveals it to us. He doesn't give us the raw answer in a few words with an unceremonious "The End."

In short, I think you'll like reading these books if any of what I have presented sounded appealing because it is presented in a way that make empathy an aspect of the adventure as you analyses Don's character. I promise to read any further sequels this story produces.

Have a good read.

I love my boobs! Funny I grant you but it is by no way an exaggeration. That's the reality, and I'm not afraid to say it: Yes I love my boobs!

To tell you the truth, not long ago I saw a video that advocated a lot of self-confidence, the fact of taking full responsibility and dressing as we see fit. In the course of the video, she told us about her flat chest and how she wasn't ashamed of it even though society tells her that it is unattractive all of the time.

In short, I agree 100% with everything she says. Listening to her I kept thinking "yes exactly! I also love my chest and I also want to reclaim it." So here I am. I have not prepared this article, so it will certainly be a bit rough, but I think spontaneity was necessary here.

When I had my daughter people made statements like you are never going to be able to feed her with those. All through puberty and high school my breasts were more of a topic than they should have been.

It has begun to change, at least I would like to think that attitudes are changing, that people are becoming more aware of things and want to improve their well-being. Just like the awareness towards food for example. In short, I am one of those people who have stopped wearing a bra, and I am very happy about that.

The relationship I have had with my body has sometimes been difficult. I'm not just talking about breasts. I'm talking about body image, weight, imperfections… Today, I am extremely proud to say that I accepted my body, my size, my complexes. I love my flat chest and I learned not to listen to the remarks, the criticisms, I learned to go over it. And by the way now I know how to answer it. I'm not the type to always let these slights go, saying to myself, "let them talk." But the aspect that was missing was lessing it go.

Today I feel so much better about my body. And I wouldn't consider putting on a bra for anything in the world, the benefits are just too good. For me it has only advantages, and I wonder why I had avoided it for so long.

The post is all over the place. But I just wanted to talk, and share my thoughts with you. I would have liked to talk to you more deeply about or the relationships to our bodies etc, not to mention my own story, but this post would be far too long. Why not in another one? Tell me if you're interested. If I write another one it can be a more structured, maybe look at the pros and cons, give you my experiences in greater depth etc.

I would also very much like to hear your point of view, debate etc.

It you want give me your opinion on the bra free experience, your thoughts can be left in a comment. I always have so much fun talking to you.

Love your body and your breasts!

I have always battled with self-esteem problems, it was more chronic when I was young. Growing up is hard and finding how to fit in has a lot of complicated facets that not everyone figures out right away. And if you don't have that head start it takes that much longer to learn that it is alright to be different.

When I stopped worrying about what others thought of me and started taking myself seriously things got so much better.

Physical activity has many virtues and is a great way to protect against chronic diseases.

Regular physical activity has many benefits, sometimes unsuspected:

  • It allows you to be physically well conditioned which, in addition to improving your athletic performance, will make your daily life easier;
  • It protects against the occurrence of cardiovascular disease, regardless of age;
  • It facilitates stable blood pressure;
  • It is effective for weight maintenance and can reduce the risk of obesity;
  • It improves sleep
  • It effectively fights stress, depression, anxiety;
  • It slows the aging process.

But it also helps improve mental health in a profound way. What to learn how I learned to feel good on a daily basis? Guess.

On top of that I learned the importance of lamenting about the past. This doesn't mean that you should ignore the experiences you have collected but their is a difference in learning from them and lamenting them.

Don't think about the mistakes you've made in the past or how you could have avoided them. We're all human beings.

No one is infallible.

The only thing that needs to be done is to learn the right lessons and at the same time take advantage of them to build a better future. This allows you to avoid internalizing the criticism against you, you won't take it to heart any more.

You know? No matter what you do, you'll always be criticized. For example, when I find myself facing criticism, I take the trouble to consider only those that allow me to improve and give my best. Something that I have shared with my daughter and it is amazing to see how much more you has been able to develop and grow when compared to who I was when I was her age.

Remember those who criticize you are no better than you.

When we are displeased with ourselves it is easy to become blinded. Yet it is important to be grateful for everything we have.

How do you want to be happy on a daily basis if you don't stop comparing yourself to others? This will lead you to envy them? The people that we choose to envy also have their own problems.

Trust me they do.

Even kim K has her problems. Always be proud of what you have because somewhere in the world, there is a person looking for a quarter of what you have.

Learn to be grateful and you will be the most fulfilled person in the world.

And my number one tool is to avoid anger at all costs.

No, anger doesn't do you any help, not one bit. Our parents were right their. While it has zero positive effects on our health, it makes you suffer, takes away all the joy we can get out of life. You can't produce anything positive if you're on edge all the time.

I hope everything I shared with you will be of some use.

If not, tell me! How about you? What makes you feel good on a daily basis?

Friends, family, a crackling fire, warm blankets, soft armchairs, natural materials, candles everywhere, soft lights… to be together, to share a meal in a cozy and warm environment… enjoy the simple things in life with people we love, this is the recipe for happiness! I completely adore this way of living.

When my sister-in-law asked me to create a theme for a get together I immediately thought of the nice contrast I could have between the unfinished wood and the beauty of the crystal… and the dinner theme came to life!

Some of the ideas I came to included:

  • Wood, wood and more wood! As the candlestick holders, under the plates, under the glasses…
  • Candles and soft little lights lots of them.
  • Glass bells, beautiful crystal glasses and a small gift bag for the guests consisting of a candle, a nice bag of tea and a silicone bag to melt chocolate…
  • For our log place mats I searched at length and turned nothing up on the internet… At least I found nothing in diameter we needed. So I advise you to order from a sawmill near you (hopefully you have)! In the end it was simple and not very expensive.

In the end it was a warm setting that allowed the guests to just sit back and relax. The price was anything but extravagant and the end result was simply priceless.

Think big but plan simply, look for the comfort in the items you use to decorate and a cozy table setting is a snap.

A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures for almost anything.

Don't believe me? Give it a try.

  1. Neurotransmitters called endorphins are released when you smile.
  2. Endorphins make us feel happier and less stressed.
  3. While the release of endorphins is increased, the stress hormone cortisol is reduced.
  4. Laughing expands the lungs, stretches the muscles in the body and stimulates homeostasis.
  5. A good laugh can be an effective way to release emotions.
  6. Smiling is an attractive expression, which is more likely to draw people to you rather than push them away.
  7. A happy, positive expression will serve you well in life.

Okay, I will rephrase that, we almost all have complexes. You know that thing you hate above all else, that you want to hide, that shames you, and that you make an effort to have fixed. We all have at least one. In some of us it is more important than in others. Sometimes it's a big nose, sometimes it's our thighs, a small chest (previously this was me, among other things), ears or even feet.

In fact you can define a complex as a part of our body that we find unsightly. We do not like it, and therefore we conclude incorrectly that it does not please others either. And sometimes it's true, a lot of complexes are created by social expectations and pressure. In fact, sometimes that's how a complex is born, when we learn that something we have doesn't please others.

The plastic surgery industry loves our complexes, at least they love the opportunity that it presents to fix it for us.

In any case, that's how one of my complexes became one. Because I used to like this part of my body, at least as much as I liked the rest of my body and it didn't bother me. And then I was forced to hear the "eh but they're really small", and the "it's not feminine at all", my image of my chest changed, because yes even our vision of ourselves can change because of the judgments of others. You may think it's crazy, and hard to relate to, but then I hope from that you don't have a problem with body image?

So I'm complicated. The same was said about my mouth. My lips are too thin and it is not very big. My teeth are neither very perfectly white nor perfectly aligned. Some have said that my smile is not very flattering. In short it caused me to not like my mouth. But if I had never been made a topic, I may never have looked at it differently.

And I know I'm not the only one who ended up in a situation like this. I know that in general, that's the way it is for everyone. We begin pick away at ourselves either because others make us think that we are not "in the norm", or because we ourselves think that others will not like us because of something that isn't the norm.

I'm not right?

Yes, there is still a part of my consciousness that tends to think about them. We can always find things to nit pick about ourselves only to make something into a problem, more often than not it has something that we perceive from outside. In fact, we are afraid try and find it in others because we see it as a personal failing. We know how hard and cruel external judgment can sometimes be, so we imagine that what we don't like about ourselves will be seen as even more unsightly in the eyes of others. We're all the same, we want to please, to show only what we perceive as out good sides.

But be honest, let's say you're alone on Earth, would you be getting bent out of shape by anything about your body?

I don't think so.

And neither can you.

Society pushes us to see our bodies through the eyes of others. Either in the form or magazines, retouched photos, social networks etc. Everything in this world wants to make us perfect, it puts unattainable beauty standards on us. Nothing is too extreme, girls must be feminine from A to Z and men must be manly. If not, you are not in the norm.

It is black and white.

That's the problem. We persist in living according to others, in making sure that we fit into the mold society has created for us. But it doesn't have to be that way. Why don't we stop thinking about the critics? What if we lived for ourselves, and only for ourselves? Not in the form of narcissists mind you, but as somebody happy with who they truly are.

Yes I may have thick thighs, a little cellulite, I may not have big breasts, I have a nose that I felt never fit with my face. I also have curly hair. So what?

We're all different, each with our own little flaws.

No one is perfect. (Now I have heard that somewhere before.)

The best way to stop freaking out is to stop comparing yourself to others. Stop accepting the lies that beauty magazines lay on so thick.

Live for yourself! Learn to accept yourself as you are. We don't care what the fashion designers think. I don't know about you but I never asked them for their opinion but they are sure willing to give it to you. You can never please everyone, you don't need to, the most important thing is to please yourself.

Love your flappy arms, love your big feet, love your small size. Love your body. Feel good about yourself. Don't hide your imperfections, accept them. And that's how you learn to be confident. The mean people move on. The only person you will have to endure all your life is yourself, and only yourself. So make sure you love yourself, you will live so much happier.

Hello readers/guests/family, you're all great I hope… Today I decided to write about something that used to be a topic in my life. It is something that can make a sudden appearance in our lives or it might be a steady companion, one that affects many people on a daily basis: insomnia.

It's never been fun to lay their awake when you should be soundly asleep in dreamland. The thoughts that run through my head at those times were the worse. No matter what I tried they invaded my mind, when everyone was asleep. It is so quite when everyone is asleep and you are awake.

After much reading and research, I realized that some of my daily habits played a crucial role when I couldn't sleep. In other words, I had adopt behaviors that unknowingly increase the likeliness of insomnia.

The reasons why insomnia is more common now than it was decades ago is a hot area of research. But it is important to understand that sleep is very important for your health. Being deprived of it on an ongoing basis leads to serious problems of concentration, memory, and mental. So if you suffer from a pour sleep cycle it is important to reverse it as soon as possible so it does not become a pattern. Many forms of psychosis appear when we are exhausted. Many people that spend time in a mental institute end up sleeping for a whole day and their problems gone. Sleep is important.

In addition, insomnia causes drowsiness throughout the next day, reduced reflexes, lack of motivation and decreased immune defenses resulting in the risk of being prone to disease.

There are a lot of obstacles to getting a good sleep that most people seem to avoid.

Not all people have a natural disposition to sleep, these cases are supposedly very low however, and most people have a lifestyle that works against them. This was my situation and when we know what to look out for we can avoid situations that make it difficult:

  • Caffeine: Coffee, tea, cola-based soft drinks, painkillers and slimming products contain enough caffeine to impair sleep. I love tea and I drink coffee in the morning. But at noon I won't touch it. My risk of a sleepless night is just too high.
  • Nicotine is another culprit that can interrupt a health sleep pattern. When compared to non-smokers, smokers are more likely to sleep and wake up more frequently.
  • Alcoholic drinks, like nicotine are another destructive habit that many people enjoy. While there are some people who drink a small glass of alcohol before going to bed because they believe the alcohol puts them to sleep (going to bed without would have the same effect for these people) this in an exception. The truth is that the presence of alcohol in the blood alters the sleep cycle and causes an intermittent moments of wakefulness or the person will wake far too early.
  • Drugs are destructive in all aspects of a persons life. Why should sleep be any different? Narcotics and amphetamines are identified as drugs that prevent the person from falling to sleep. And when the user manages to fall asleep, the substances contained in these products interrupt the sleep cycle and cause an unwanted wakefulness.
  • While I mentioned drugs already, it should be noted that medications can have the same effect on our sleep as narcotics do. There is a long list of medications that produce insomnia, mainly antidepressants and steroids.
  • That hearty supper might also be a cause of restless nights. It has been prove that heavy food has a way of limiting rest. While the opposite can be said about light food which can make sleep easier, especially if it contains complex carbohydrates (bread, pasta, rice), as the serotonin or 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) content helps you sleep. But when you eat hearty food, especially close to bed time centralizes all the organic energy towards digestion and interrupts sleep. Think about it like drinking too much water before going to sleep, the body will wake you up to urinate.

There are other circumstantial inconveniences that also promote insomnia:

Stress: Your sleep will suffer when you go through periods of excessive amounts of stress, for example if you lose a loved one.

It will be the same when you have to go through a significant transition time (such as your wedding, the start of a new job or a move). If the stress is transient, wait until it disappears, but if it stabilizes, do something to drive it away.

Stress was the reason I went through years of sleepless nights. Once I learned how to combat in my life I was so much happier and sleep came naturally.
